Open Source cloud solution for the Internet of Things
For Businesses
This white paper has been produced by the OpenIoT project as part of their requirements analysis at the start of their research project. Significant results have however been found and the aim of this document is to make these results public, since they might help other projects or other entities working in the Internet of Things domain to understand more what are the needs and situations that SMEs are facing.

Physical and virtual sensors data (including social networks stream data) play a crucial role in smart environments, OpenIoT will help to improve the service provisioning for ubiquitous and scheduling of services and places alike to have access to other OpenIoT services, which will deploy and offer a broad selection of services.
- Smart Agriculture,
- Intelligent Manufacturing,
- Urban Crowdsensing,
- Smart Living and
- Smart Campus
In Smart Agriculture, for example, farmers and researchers will benefit with an instantaneous crop performance analysis platform. OpenIoT solution will use wide range of distributed remote sensors from various data providers to build models and provide yield prediction of wheat varieties.
In Intelligent Manufacturing, the OpenIoT platform can be used for intelligent sensing in manufacturing environments, where it can offer a number of benefits such as rapid integration of sensors and devices of the production environment, dynamic and intelligent discover of sensors within manufacturing plants, as well as analysis of data collected from the shop floor.
In Urban Crowdsensing, we focus on city administrations who wish to make citizens and visitors more aware of key local health and comfort factors, like for example air quality and traffic congestion. The city administrations are expected to act as service providers using an aoutsource OpenIoT platform.
In Smart Living, we focus on citizens (especially elderly) that can benefit from location aware (outdoor and indoor) services that us open and crowd-sourced data in order to make their everyday life simpler. A wide variety of companies acting as Solution Providers in the local eco-system created by the local administration and its citizens are target stakeholders for this type of IoT services.
